That most of the 650 drivers who took part in a study by Irish-based insurance intermediary Chill found Dublin had the most dangerous roads.But they pinpointed the top three countrywide as being the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare, the Old Military Road in Co Wicklow and Kerry’s Gap of Dunloe.But given the extent of the response, we asked for more names and here’s what Chill gave us: Slea Head Drive, Dursey Road, Conor Pass, Sally Gap, Ring of Kerry, Mount of Leinster, Bull Bridge, Truskmore, Healy Pass.
It is fair to say the study energised people, many of whom highlighted their local areas – from Galway to Wicklow to Westmeath to the M50.But while many made excellent comments, by far the most profound description of our riskiest road had no name at all.It came from a reader who told us it is: “The short drive home after a few pints. . . thinking you are fine.”
